Program Overview:

The Summer Research Trainee Program (SRTP) is a program at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) that pairs students with an Mass General faculty preceptor to provide guidance and mentorship in a new or ongoing research project. The Mass General Center for Diversity and Inclusion founded the program in 1992 for students historically underrepresented in medicine (UiM)* who are interested in academic medicine and/or biomedical research. This year the program starts with the orientation on Monday, June 3, 2024, and ends on Friday, July 26, 2024.


Eligibility:

Interest in pursuing a career in academic medicine or biomedical research
- Member of a group that is underrepresented in medicine (UiM)*
- Undergraduate junior or senior; rising first-year medical student; first-year medical student; graduate-school student; or post-baccalaureate student
- Attended/attending a college, graduate school or medical school in the U.S. and Puerto Rico

2024 Application Process
Applications for the 2024 Summer Internship Program will be accepted starting December 1, 2023. The application deadline for the undergraduate 2024 Summer Internship Program is February 1, 2024.


Eligibility:

Undergraduate college students must have completed at least one year of higher education (equivalent to 24 credit hours), currently, be enrolled in a science/research-related degree program and maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.

Students who have graduated before the start date of and/or during the summer internship program (April 1, 2024– September 1, 2024) are ineligible. If you are currently enrolled as a high school student or in a Master’s degree program, you are ineligible to participate in the undergraduate research summer internship program.

The Physics REU program at the University of Washington Bothell (UWB) hosts undergraduate research students for 10 weeks during the summer to participate in research projects, professional development activities, and an introduction to research-oriented careers in physics and astronomy. Participants will be matched with faculty mentors based on student interests and will join a cohort of students participating in weekly seminars, workshops, and an introduction to research resources and skills.


Eligibility:

You must be an undergraduate student in any academic year (freshman through senior) at the time of the summer program.
You don't need to have a declared major, but you must have already completed the introductory physics sequence at your school.
Participants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents in order to be supported by NSF funding. Other funding opportunities are also available for this program. Students who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents may be eligible for other funding. All interested students should apply at the link in the next section.

The Summer in Biomedical Science (SIBS) Undergraduate Research Program will provide the opportunity for young people to be instructed in the techniques of modern biology while becoming integrated members of a vibrant clinical and scientific community. The objectives for the SIBS program are found below:

To give college undergraduates a hands-on educational experiences in biomedical science.

To promote awareness of the major basic and clinical research areas in the biomedical sciences.

To give college undergraduates the opportunity to interact with basic science researchers and clinical scientists.

To allow a student an insider's at the medical and graduate programs offered here at UAB.


Eligibility:

Fifteen students who will be sophomore or junior level college undergraduates in March 2023 will be accepted into an 8-week paid summer program (2023 dates: June 5, - July 28, 2023) to work with faculty members on mentored research projects. US Citizens or Permanent Residents are eligible to apply; International Students are not eligible.

SIBS participants will receive a stipend of $3,200 for their participation in the program.

Campus housing will be provided but travel expenses are not covered.

The Vanderbilt Undergraduate Clinical Research Internship Program (UCRIP) gives college students earning a four-year degree the opportunity to participate in both research and clinical patient care at an academic medical center. This program is designed for students who are interested in a career in medicine. Participants will complete a research project under the directorship of a research mentor and also directly observe clinical patient care while spending time with residents and attending physicians.


Eligibility:

The Program is limited to U.S. citizens (or persons having U.S. Permanent Resident status) earning a four-year undergraduate degree at an accredited US college or university.
Applying students must be a college undergraduate during the summer of the program year.
Applying students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or greater on a 4.0 scale.
UCRIP is unable to consider international applications. And as of 2016, the Vanderbilt International Scholar Program is no longer active. Talented undergraduates from around the nation are invited to apply for the University of Pennsylvania Graduate Division of Arts and Sciences Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR–EIP) through the Leadership Alliance (Deadline February 1st). Eligible programs include those in the Humanities and Social Science fields.


Eligibility:

Applicants must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or better and:

Have completed at least two semesters and have at least one semester remaining of their undergraduate education by the start of the summer program.

Demonstrate interest and potential to pursue graduate study toward a PhD or MD–PhD. (Note: The SR–EIP is NOT designed for students pursuing professional training for careers in the practice of law, business administration, clinical medicine, clinical psychology or the allied health professions.)

Be a documented US citizen or non–citizen national or permanent resident in possession of an alien registration receipt card (I–551) or other legal document of such status. International citizens studying in the United States with an F–1 visa are not eligible for the SR–EIP. Individuals seeking asylum or refugees are not eligible.
